After months of dedicated practice and teamwork, the OSS mock trial competed at the Simcoe Muskoka Mock Trial tournament last Thursday evening. Participants Sam S. Mathias J., Emma F. Mary Grace M., Rebecca M., Chris H., Jasper O. Madalynn H., and Myles O. handled themselves expertly under stressful points of advocacy and or testifying as witnesses. The coaches enjoyed working with a dedicated and hardworking team.
Mino Ghizheb OSS, a reminder that there will be a presentation tomorrow in the OSS library during second period for awareness and to honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. All staff and students are welcome. Students wishing to attend can also sign up in the front office or in the Andaayang.

This week is the National Day for Awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, also known as Red Dress Day.
Added to our display in the front foyer now are faceless dolls created by your fellow students. These dolls are meant to represent those women, girls and Two-Spirited individuals who have been lost and are faceless victims of violence.
The Faceless Dolls Project was developed by the Native Women’s Association of Canada to demonstrate how those lost are faceless because cases are not taken as seriously, and those lost are devalued by society due to stereotypical views and inaction by the police and government. Data shows it takes days, even weeks, for the media to share any news of a missing Indigenous person, in contrast to a few hours for most other missing Canadians.
These dolls are then a visual representation of the women, girls and Two-Spirited individuals who need to be remembered, and can offer hope for closure for their grieving families and communities.
We can also help with this by coming together tomorrow during Period 2 in the Library with guest speakers. All are welcome to join us to learn more and honour those women, girls and Two-Spirited individuals who have been lost, but are not forgotten.
