"Good morning everyone!

Today is Pink Shirt Day or Bullying Awareness Day— a day to remind ourselves how important it is to be kind, inclusive, and supportive to the people around us.

Bullying can have a serious impact on someone’s mental health, even if we don’t always see it. That’s why it’s important to stand up for one another and create a safe and respectful environment where everyone feels accepted.

Let today be a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day.

Thank you from the Student Mental Health team!"

According to the 2024 Homelessness Enumeration for Simcoe County and the Orillia area: 1,080 people were experiencing homelessness county-wide, with about 21 per cent (227 people) in Orillia.  Orillia winters can be harsh, imagine the plight of those who face homelessness and food insecurity, especially during the freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall.

Having warm clothing and safe shelter can make all the difference.

That’s why Students for Change is taking action in two ways. We are raising money for the Coldest Night of the Year, a winter walk that supports local organizations helping those experiencing homelessness and hunger. We are also hosting a Winter Clothing Drive to collect coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and other warm essentials for members of our community.  So, check your closets for gently used winter gear and consider donating towards the community. Thank you!

Volleyball intramurals are today at lunch in the gym!  If you can spike, serve, or at least stand in the right spot, we need you! Remember, you need your safety forms signed and to have purchased a student id card. So, bring your running shoes, your winning attitude, and all your friends down to the gym today!

Celebrating Black Canadian artistry, today we specifically highlight Charmaine A. Nelson, whose vibrant work focuses on heritage. Charmaine has published 7 books, including Ebony Roots and Northern Soil.

Reminder to all Inidgenous graduates of the grad cap beading workshop taking place tomorrow from 2:30-4:30 in the Andaayang. No prior sign-up or experience is required.

On Monday, your Nighthawks girls' hockey team faced off against the Bear Creek Kodiaks in a playoff match for the ages. With opening goals from Kaydence T. and Catelyn H., the girls dominated the first period, leading by one. The second and third saw more goals from Ava M., Captain Carlee T.,  and Maddy T.. The girls faced a strong offense from the Kodiaks, with goalies Bevyn D. and Irelyn M. standing solid. The girls were tied going into the last two minutes, unfortunately falling to a 6-7 final score. Great effort ladies! We will see you next season.

Attention OSS students,

The yearbook class is working on finishing up the grade sections AND the grad section for this Friday’s deadline.  While we are furiously triple-checking font sizes and alignment, verifying border widths and rounding the corners, but we can’t help but wish we had more time for some candid photos.  You could help us with this.  If you have, or if you could take a photo of your friends, you can upload your photo using your school account to the QR code on the poster in the front foyer.  If you can not find this poster, please come to room 343 and we will help you out.  It is also posted by the door of 343, so there hopefully won’t be much assistance required.

Please make sure your photos are focused, well lit, and yearbook appropriate before you hit send and bring on some consequences.

Thank you for your assistance, and a special thanks to the grads as almost two-thirds of you were able to complete the grad quote survey.  It looks like Mr. Bolen is only going to get to use some of his favourite Nickelback quotes!

Please note that the library will be closed all day Wednesday and Thursday for SHSM training.

The Hawk Shop is open today at lunch!  Swing on by to grab your OSS swag. Sweatshirts, t-shirts, spirit scarves, socks, stickers and more are available at great prices!  All purchases are cash only.
