Message to OSS Students to OSS Students

Good day. I’d like to provide you with some information regarding the end of the school year. Locker cleanout went well last week. We have our grade 12s coming through this week. We realize that not everyone was able to make it on their scheduled date and time. The “makeup date” will be Wed June 17 from 9am until noon. There won’t be a set student schedule. Come to the front doors of the school during that time window. We will be limiting the number of students in the building at any given moment, please be prepared to wait if necessary. After that date, locks will be removed and the contents will be bagged and labelled. Please call the school to arrange a pick up time.

On that same date of Wednesday June 17th, we will also have a “drive by drop off” option for any text books, library books, sport uniforms, musical instruments, band shirts, music folders, etc. that students had at home that they wish to return. This will also run from 9am until noon.

Students that received computers or chromebooks will have the option to have the device picked up at their home by the bus consortium on Wednesday June 24. Exact times will be communicated to each person directly. If no one is able to meet the driver on that scheduled date and time, students and parents are welcome to drop the device off at the school on either Wed June 17th or Tues June 23rd.

We have updated information about report cards. We have been informed that they will be emailed to parents in the first week of July. If we do not have an accurate email address, we will mail the report card. If we don’t have an email address and you wish to provide one, please call the school. Leave us your name, your student’s name and your phone number. An office staff member will contact you for the email address.

Thank you, if you have any questions please contact the school. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner.

Peter Bowman

Principal

Orillia Secondary School

<span style="font-family:"arial", sans-serif;color:black;">

<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"arial", sans-serif;color:black;">

NEW & IMPORTANT INFORMATION & IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Good afternoon students and parents of Orillia Secondary School. I hope this message finds you and your family well. I have key information to share with you regarding assessment and final reports for this semester, locker clean-out, distribution of spirit wear, collection of books and computers and commencement.<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">

All students will begin completing a culminating task in each of their courses over the next two weeks. Students are asked to do their very best on each of the assigned tasks. If you have questions please contact your classroom teacher. Teachers will then reflect on all work completed prior to March 13th and any work completed through distance learning to determine a final mark in each class. Report cards will be completed and distributed to parents by mail in the first week of July. Please make sure the school has your current mailing address on file.<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">

Locker clean-out at OSS will occur on Wednesday June 3rd, Thursday June 4th and Friday June 5th for all Grade 9 10 and 11 students. All students are assigned a specific date and time based on the first letter of their last name. For a complete list of the schedule please refer to an email that was sent to parents, each student email address or the school website. <span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">

All grade 12 students will be invited to do their locker cleanout on Tuesday June 9th or Thursday June 11th. On the same date as locker clean-out, grade 12s that are potential grads will be given their cap and gown. They will then be invited to spend a moment with a professional videographer where they will state their name and share a brief, school appropriate, comment on their plans for the future or reflections on their time at OSS. This video clip will be included in our virtual commencement ceremony and it will be broadcast using the NHTV YouTube channel. A link will also be placed on our website. Our commencement ceremony will include the usual elements of a commencement, including your valedictorians address. It is our intention to also provide an in person, social celebration for all graduates and their families at some point in the future. Ideally we would do this on Thanksgiving weekend when many of our students will be home to be with family. These plans are not confirmed as we are waiting on direction regarding large group gatherings. The moment we are able to confirm a date and time, we will do our best to communicate to students and their families.<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">

Students that have purchased spirit wear will be able to pick up their items at the school time to clean out their locker. Students that are still using textbooks and library books to complete their culminating tasks will be given an opportunity to drop those items off at the school at a later date. Students that have been assigned a computer from the school will be contacted with details about the pickup or drop off of those items. At this time we are intending to use the school bus Consortium to pick up computers from students’ homes. Again, concrete details will be sent to those families affected.<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">

At this time I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our staff for the extra effort they have made to work with and support students during this semester. I would also like to thank students and parents who are working together to complete their part of the continuity of learning plan. Truly this whole experience will be one that none of us will ever forget. I also recognize that many of you will have questions about next year. At this time I have absolutely no answers. I am as anxious as you to know what school will look like in September. I will do my best to keep you informed as details become known.

Full locker plan Jun 2020.pdf

Peter Bowman

Principal

Orillia Secondary School
